The Life and Times of Kiki Chaos

When tempest tossed, embrace chaos.

Katy Perry Purr

April15

New perfume releases generally pass me by with very little interest, because I don't wear perfume.

Or rather, I can't wear perfume.

I used to. I wore Estee Lauder Beautiful for my entire highschool education. And then Elizabeth Arden's Fifth Avenue. Banana Republic Classic. I flirted with SJP's Lovely.

But a few years ago, I noticed that every time I wore perfume I started to feel nauseous. And it wouldn't go away until I washed it off.

I blame Calvin Klein IN2U. I got a his n' her sample, and made Mr K put it on with me. Five minutes later, driving in the car, I was so sick, I desperately wiped it off both of us with the only thing handy – windscreen cleaner wipes.

No idea what it did to me, but ever since then, I haven't been able to wear perfume. I don't have very kind feelings towards Mr Klein.

So, even though I'm certain Katy Perry's new perfume, Purr, would make me want to hurl – I want!

I'm not generally into frou frou and uber-girliness, but gosh that bottle is adorable!

Although maybe adorable's not the right word. Adorable's probably better suited to Hello Kitty, but this bottle design is inspired because it's a perfect mix of cutesy kitty and a slightly darker edge. Just a little bit sultry.

I guess not unlike Katy Perry herself.

But that's not where her obviously brilliant marketing team stopped.

The whole Purr campaign is drop dead gorgeous.

And for the launches, she looked equally stunning.

And then there was this, um…. what??

I think her stylist was off sick that day.

As far as the perfume goes, apparently it's a very youth-orientated fruity floral, with notes of peach, apple, green bamboo, jasmine, freesia, Bulgarian rose, vanilla orchid, white amber, sandalwood and musk.

I'm sure I'll receive an offer for a free sample soon enough (I have a separate email account set up entirely for email marketing – for work – and am on a million-and-one email lists), which I might redeem for once. I'm quite curious about Purr.

Although, now that I've looked at it more, I do think the bottle's bigger than I would have made it. I think it would look much classier at about 2/3rds the size. I think it's size has a bit of a 'Toys R Us' feel.

What do you think?

  2. Oh, I’m not a fan of celebriscents but this bottle is terribly enticing. And I agree, a smaller size would have been much more elegant.

Andrea – Oh god, me either. They all smell like cat pee.. which would be kind of fitting for this… (sorry) ;)

Apparently there are 30, 50 and 100 ml bottles…I’m guessing the one Katy is holding is the 100ml because it is obviously the easiest for marketting purposes…I would be interested to see the smaller bottles though!

    • Kiki says:

Ashleigh – Oh, that’s good to hear. I think I might check out the 30ml. I think it would make just a gorgeous dressing table decoration. Thank you!

  4. I love their marketing campaign. Katy Perry is gorgeous :) and Russell’s response above is hilarious ha ha

I’m not fan of celeb-scents too but the bottle is cute.

    • Kiki says:

Gen – I think Katy’s gorgeous too, cos she’s not ‘typical’ tinseltown. Haha… I’m sure dunklebird appreciates that you find his er, warped sense of humour amusing! ;)

I haven’t had a chance to smell this but i really want to! Im hoping its not too sickly, i had a Jasmine & Orange Blossom or something, and it was SO STRONG! It gave me headaches everytime i wore it. So im hoping the Jasmine is understated in this. Also she looks so amazing in purple!

    • Kiki says:

Tiffany – I haven’t had a chance yet either. If I buy it, it’ll just be for decoration, because I know those headaches!
