Letterbox Love Affair

December22

I believe there are few small joys that compare to going to the mailbox and finding one of these, don't you agree?

Well, an actual package is better, of course, but our slot is small and the property's inaccessible, so more often than not I get a little blue card summoning me to the depot.

Luckily, it's only a couple of blocks away.

The woman who works there is starting to remember me. I'm sure it won't be long until she stops asking me for ID.

That will probably be the sign it's time to stop shopping online.

But until then, viva la visa!

Provoking Packaging

May9

Two packages came in the mail yesterday, one for me and one for Mr K.

Feeling guilty about the amount of time I spend in the shower (I won't admit how long, but possibly enough to undo all my good recycling efforts), I took the government up on their Target 155 offer of a free Water Saver Kit, containing a shower timer and some hose nozzle thingy.

I estimate the timer, nozzle and 4 pamphlets could have easily fitted in a 99c padded bag from Australia Post.

They came in this.

Perhaps a case of contents settling during shipping?

Should I really be surprised that any good a government initiative is supposed to achieve is diminished by its implementation? I'd really like to get hold of the Target 155 design team and give them a good shake.

Mr K's package from Remington was far worse.

What do you think this 12x10x8cm box contained? An electric razor? A beard trimmer?

No, digging through the foam pellets revealed a takeaway food container.

And inside that…

A 30mm trimmer replacement blade, approximately the size of a walnut.

I understand the need for protective packaging, but there's secure and then there's just plain ridiculous.I hate that so many companies just feel absolutely no responsibility when it comes to caring for the planet. It's all just business as usual.
