The Stylish Blogger Award
Hey, my first blogger award! Thank you Miss Kitty… I am very chuffed!
I feel very honoured to be called stylish by Miss Kitty, who – if you haven't already checked out her blog – has the most amazing wardrobe and shoe collection known to blog-kind!… and is the very epitome of style.

So, how this award works is I'm supposed to share 7 things about myself, and then pass on the award to 15 blogs I've recently discovered and enjoy reading.
Seven Things You May Not Know About Kiki Chaos
1. I'm the third child of four siblings.
I have an older sister I'm very close to, an older brother I never see and a younger brother I see from time to time. I'm fascinated by birth order, because some psychologists believe our siblings actually wield a greater influence over the way we turn out than our parents do.
2. My right leg is about 1 inch shorter than the left.
My chiropractor reckons a significant blow to my leg during a growth spurt as a child temporarily caused it to stop growing, while the other one kept going. You couldn't tell unless you were standing behind me and I was in my underwear so, in other words, never. He also reckons it means I'll need a hip replacement in my 50s. I can already feel the wear and tear starting to happen. Oh well, bring on the titanium!
3. People often ask me where I'm from.
When I say Melbourne, they say, "No, which country. You have an accent." I've lived in Australia my whole life. My dad's English and my mum's Russian/Lithuanian, but they both emigrated at 2 years of age and don't have accents. I wish I could hear this accent everyone else seems to hear.
4. I've never smoked a cigarette.
When I was in primary school, a puppet giraffe in a government education caravan said that smoking was bad for me, and I believed him.
I was also a very obedient child. By the time I wasn't, it simply held no appeal.
5. I collect silica gel packets.
In the 80s, 'country cottage' was a huge fashion and making your own pot pourri was a common craft project. One of the ways you could dry your own flower petals was to spread them on a tray and sprinkle them with silica gel, which soaks up moisture. So I started collecting the little packets you find in tablet containers and shoe boxes.
I never did make my own pot pourri, or dry my own flowers. But for some completely unfathomable reason I can't stop collecting silica gel packets. I've been collecting since I was about 12. I have about 2 kgs of the stuff. It makes absolutely no sense.
6. My all time favourite movie is Jurassic Park.
I'll never forget feeling completely blown away by this movie. No other film has ever made me feel that way. The storyline, the actors, the jokes, the spectacularly realistic animatronics and CGI, the edge-of-your-seat suspense… I simply cannot fault this movie. It set the benchmark for animatronics, which I don't believe has yet been superceded. So many iconic moments. Just hearing the theme music brings flooding back all those childish feelings of Movie Magic.
I love Jurassic Park.
7. I only eat cut apples.
I had braces in my teens and my orthodontist told me not to eat whole apples because biting into them could break my bands. I had to slice them. I got so used to eating them this way, I've been slicing my apples into 8 pieces ever since.

I remember that giraffe in the van as well!
Do you know I only eat apples cut up too? Having braces in my early twenties ensured I would never bite into an apple again.
I use to love going to see Healthy Harold (giraffe) at school! Also remember all the stars on the ceiling.
I’ve never had a cigarette in my mouth either! Very proud of that fact.
Julia – Haha, we must be of the same vintage! And it’s a pleasure to meet another apple-cutter-upperer. There’s something really satisfying about the neatness of apples eaten that way, isn’t there?
Reezy – LOL!
Healthy Harold! Oh my god, I can’t believe you remember his name… hilarious! Hey, a government initiative that actually worked – well, at least for two people…
I get the accent thing too. and…
My mum is australian – dad is lithunian. The only accent ive ever had is a very slight lisp which has subsided as ive grown up (mostly).
OMG! I can’t believe you still collect silica packets – that’s hilarious! Mind you, I think I only stopped collecting them 10years ago – years and years after I made my first few and only batches of potpourri. Even now I still look at silica packets before I throw them away and there’s a fleeting thought of “should I keep it?”. As you say, absolutely ridiculous considering you can easily buy the stuff now at bunnings. Which we just did, to soak up some water on the carpet from a leaking shower. I could have just rung you up lol. (PS I may also be responsible for your lingering compulsion – I am so sorry ?)
Thank you for tagging me for the next round — very excited to do it! Now to think of seven things…
I too collect silica packets, although for storing my bath bombs and ‘must-keep-dry!!’ things. I have a small mountain of them, but definitely not 2kg! Mildly envious. I’ve heard they make awesome popping sounds when you toss them in water. (Worth a shot?
)

How funny, now there are 2 of you that collect silica packets
Hilarity. Great idea for a post.
Thanks a bunch, again!
OMG Harold! That made me laugh and Hubby just didn’t get it. JP is an awesome movie. Thanks for the award as well
Valankuay, no don’t blame yourself. I think you girls got the silica collecting gene from me. Didn’t know there was such a thing but clearly there must be because I have no earthly use for silica packets but have only just now stopped saving them. But like you I still pause before I throw one out.
inertia – It’s very rare to meet another person with Lithuanian blood
And I have a very faint speech impediment too that I didn’t know existed until I did some voiceover work and it’s loud and clear on tape!
Valankuay – Stupid pot pourri. I don’t even like pot pourri! And now it’s given me this damn compulsion lol!
Andrea – Man, at least you have a use for them. Do you surreptitiously bend down and pick them up when you’re walking through the Myer shoe dept like me? It’s a sickness.
Genevieve – And here I was thinking I was one of a kind!
Looking forward to your 7 things.
Jess – I’m thrilled to have a little puzzle piece missing from my childhood restored – Healthy Harold the puppet giraffe … lol!
Zan – Omg, it was you! Well, I can’t – and won’t – stop collecting them. My children will tell the story of their mother’s bizarre life long silica collecting habit at my funeral
Oh Kiki, silica gel packets? This one had me laughing. Thank you!
PS. I’ve not forgotten to do my return post. I want to do this on my new blog as one of my first posts (new interwebs realestate ) but it’s soooo involved!
Hey, I never got to say, but a huge thanks for including me on this! lol about your silica gel packet collection, I suppose you could say the same about me and clothing tags. I have a box of clothing tags, I just don’t have the heart to throw them away!
This is such a cute post! Most ’7 things about me’ posts are boring but I had quite a bit of fun reading this one!
