The Life and Times of Kiki Chaos

When tempest tossed, embrace chaos.

Pizza, Pizza, Pizza… I Really Wanna Eatcha!

March24

You know how I wrote in an earlier post about my love for Aldi because they stock the gorgeous Henckel Trocken piccolos? Unfortunately the hand of friendship cannot be extended to their plain pizza bases.

If, like me, you've been hanging out for homemade pizzas, count down the minutes til the oven bell rings and sing the title of this post over and over to pass the time, you'll be sadly disappointed if you use Aldi pizza bases.

Home made pizza

So, instead of sharing a pic of the doughy, yeasty and stodgy duds we ate tonight, I'll show you the awesome ones we made using thin, delicious, gourmet Pana Toscana ones from Coles last week. They are uneven and rustic looking and you can pretend you made them yourself.

Dessert is often a haute cuisine affair at Chez Kiki, and I slaved over tonight's like a finalist on MasterChef.

How many of you tonsil-less readers are having childhood flashbacks right about now? I wanted to get my tonsils out like all the kids at school just so I could go to hospital and eat jelly and icecream, but they stubbornly refused to get inflamed and painful so I was deprived.

Jelly is sweet. Very, very sweet.

While we're on the subject of things to not buy, I would hold myself responsible if you went out and bought this next product and I hadn't warned you of its carpness first. You know how you sometimes get a sample bag of 'stuff' when you buy a magazine? Well March's issue of Women's Weekly had one, and it included a little bottle of this.

It was in the fridge until I took a sip. Then I moved it here.

If watered down Plax sounds like your idea of a refreshing beverage, knock yourself out. I'm sure you'll be able to buy these for $5 a pallet at NQR before too long. For everyone else, steer clear.

Ok, so you don't all think I'm just a poopy pants complainer, wanna see the awesomeness that arrived in the mail today?? This is what 1.5 kilograms of the best chocolate in the whole entire world looks like.

Americans don't know how lucky they are. I'm trying not to think how much it cost to get these from ebay when they can waltz into Walgreens (ETA: oops, I mean Walmart… Walgreens is a pharmacy) and get them for about $1 each. Regardless, the American penchant for making a peanut butter version of everything edible pays off big time with M&Ms, and they are worth every Aussie cent paid. Just look inside!

One packet was opened by customs and resealed. I wonder if the customs person was tempted to sneak just one? If I worked there I would have scoffed the whole packet and gotten fired.

Nail girls, don't die of shock at me parading my nails around naked. Just giving them a couple days rest cos they were starting to get a bit yellow. Don't worry, I'm going right back on the crack tomorrow and will post my new mani then.

But before I go, I'm sure some readers (read: mum) nursed secret fears for the houseplant I bought recently. I'm happy to report that it's alive and well and have pictorial evidence. It really likes water for some reason. Here it is looking all perky and stand-uppy after a drink.

I think it also loves its 70's glam pot.

xx Kiki

Shock! You brazen hussy – appearing naked on your blog!!!

I think I made mint tea and served it to you once which tasted like mouthwash – apparently more is not better when it comes to mint.

And yes, I too wanted my tonsils out when I was a child so I could eat ice-cream and jelly. Like wanting a broken arm so everyone could write on your caste (didn’t happen either). Or thinking Turkish Delight would be the best thing ever until you tasted it (I do like it now, but was sadly disappointed when I first tried it as a child). Or wishing there was such a thing as ‘Pop-Biscuits’!

Oh my lordy! I LOVE PB M&Ms! They are the best – second only to peanut butter cups. Yes really. I can’t wait to stock up when I go to the US this year…

    Love your blog Zaire!

I have gourmet pizza cook off’s with my husband. I’m obsessed with using banana atm.. they don’t look the best but taste scrumptious :P I think banana and sweet chilli go hand in hand..

This recipe is from another food blog I’m really into at the moment; I’m going to attempt is this weekend: http://smittenkitchen.com/2010/03/breakfast-pizza/ I’ve never thought of making a breakfast pizza before!

    Reezy :)

Valankuay: I’m glad it’s not just me! And yes, I wanted a cast too so I could be the centre of attention. What can I say, I was the attention deprived third child… ;)

Kitty: I’m so jealous you’re going to America. Eat lots of peanut butter m&ms and drink lots of Cherry Coke for me! Btw, why does everyone always say the m&ms are ‘almost’ as good as the peanut butter cups? M&ms rule the peanut butter world!

    Reezy: Thankyou!

Banana and sweet chilli?? I have to know your recipe… intruiging! Loving the look of the breakfast pizza. Let me know how you go with it. Love smitten kitchen’s blog… she’s very witty :)

Hehe he oh gees here goes.. Hope you like my obscure taste :)

    Tomato base
    Pepperoni
    Bacon Bits
    Avocado
    Banana slices
    Swirl of sweet chilli
    Swirl of BBQ sauce
    Shredded cheese
    S&P

As you can see above I usually cook pizza’s when I need to empty the fridge!

  7. Kiki says:

    Oh. Ummm. Like I said… innnnnteresting! ;)

haha, no actually, that kind of sounds nice in a very clean-out-the-fridge kind of way. I’ll give it a go next time we do pizzas, though I may skip the bbq sauce. I’m just not a fan though Mr K is.

Please post again with your breakfast pizza outcome – that looked awesome.

Update! I tried the breaky pizza on the weekend. It was yummy and Hubby was a fan! I added grilled tomato as well.. :P

The only thing i did wrong was put the cheese on top when it should have been under the egg.. oh well next time gadget.. next time! :)

  9. Kiki says:

Grilled tomato sounds perfect… now that you’ve said it I remember I thought it sounded great but needed a little extra ‘something’. I’m going to steal your idea! Thanks for that :)
