A Very Autumn Day
I've decided that I like the transitional seasons – Spring and Autumn – the most at the moment.
Today was one of those perfect crisp yet warm trans-seasonal days, and my love for Autumn must have been expressing itself unconsciously. Because after three separate purchases I realised they shared one thing in common – they were all orange.
First, I ducked into Chemist Warehouse because my sister asked me to find a neon orange nailpolish for my niece.
Which I did. It's TBNs Orange Fluoro, in case you want eye-popping Fanta-coloured nails for some reason.

I haven't been opshopping much lately, because when I browse randomly I tend to accumulate things I don't really need (one of the only beauties of living in a home with very little storage – you don't buy 'stuff' because you literally have nowhere to put it).
So I only go opshopping when I need something. At the moment I'm collecting fabric for my next quilt.
Vintage aprons like this one are often made from fabulous original fabrics.
I adore this vibrant print.
I have to say, though, these half aprons have always puzzled me. Obviously they were very popular up til the 50s or 60s, but did they really do a good job of protecting a woman's clothes when she was housekeeping?
They'd only protect from the waist down, but I know when I'm cooking and cleaning… well, mess gets everywhere. Wouldn't their tops have gotten filthy? I'm baffled.
I'd love to be one of those immaculately groomed, perfectly manicured women who does housework in high heels, pearls and one of these adorable aprons…
But that never going to happen. (Actually, I don't really wish that, it's just a quaint image…)
I usually do housework in my pajamas, before I've showered. Housework is sweaty business. It's not glamorous.

Anyway, where was I? …. Orange.
In another opshop I also found this funky orange colander. I don't think it's vintage, but it has that feel.
We had one of those collapsible silicon colanders, and it was absolutely useless. I sold it to some poor person at our recent garage sale, and have actually felt guilty ever since. The right thing would have been to throw it away.
But thank goodness I don't have to drain pasta in stages in the flour sieve anymore!

I had planned to give myself a red manicure tonight but of course, in honour of Autumn and all my orange finds, I changed my mind and painted them in Rimmel's Tangerine Queen.
One of the upsides of breaking a nail is it means I have to cut them all very short. I much prefer the look of very short painted nails. I think it looks so chic.
But I'm too lazy to file every second day, because my nails grow really fast.

It's going to be a perfectly sunny Autumn week in Melbourne. Hopefully the sun's shining on the rest of your week too
xx Kiki

I only really know two seasons, but after experiencing lovely weather in Melbourne over the weekend, I have to say I’m now quite partial to Autumn
miss posy – Really? I’m very curious now… which seasons don’t you experience?
Hmm intriguing, I will have to ask the old lady that lives down the road, who when ever I see her, is wearing a half apron – no matter what time of day it is. I have a full apron, it’s a boring Real Estate one that we were given when we bought our house. I would love to get a full one like you have pictured. It would be so fun to wear. Do you keep your aprons with your tea towels?
I do housework in my PJ’s too!
The sun is shining in the Hunter Valley
Reezy – haha… oh, you must ask her. She sounds gorgeous. I have only 2 aprons – one with a kind of floral/bird motif and a black one I bought specifically when making a red velvet cake so I didn’t stain the other. I absolutely keep them with the tea towels… they belong together like peas and carrots! Love that I’m not the only one who cleans in pjs
Waaahhhhh – missing Melbourne Autumn! Then again 28 degrees here tomorrow, so I’ll take that!
Gorgeous orange nails, lovely – you work that colour well. You don’t even want to know how many polishes I have bought of late – a make up shop down the road has Zoya’s, so I go in and buy a few every time I go past. The formula is divine!
I keep meaning to send an email but just so, so busy – I finish uni next week so that will free up a bit more time but who am I kidding, I’ll just fill that time in with work.
Hope you are well! xxx
Scout – Dammit, you must hate me for never emailing. I swear I’m email averse… it’s a terrible weakness
I’m gonna just call you, ok?! I have never seen Zoya here in Melbourne, so I’m very jealous. I do hear that they are divine. We will catch up this week for sure. xx Kiki
How in the world do you get your nails so neatly painted? After years, of practice, I still cannot.
Perhaps I should frequent beauty blogs a bit more …
You mentioned that your nails grow fast. Did you know that heat makes nails grow faster, so in summer our nails ‘apparently’ grow faster. Since you mentioned in previous post that your body temperature is on the warmer side, this might be related to your nail growth.
Okay, I now realise how random this comment might seem but this is how my mind ticks … really.
Genevieve – Tons of practice and a few tricks I’ve learned along the way, hon. I’m in the process of making a series of posts about it… they’re coming. I know, I keep saying that, so no-one believes me, but it will happen!
That’s really fascinating about nails growing faster in the heat and how my constitution may be behind it… I would never have made that connection. Thank you for sharing that… I am very happy your mind ticks that way.
I love tangerine orange. I’m not game enough to do the whole colour blocking trend and match it with bright blue though.
I’ve been guilty of using the flour sieve when my ikea colander is being used to hold washed vegetables.
Sass – Hmm, yeah I’m not sure I could do the colour blocking either. The only place I tend to wear bright colours is my nails, so I probably should be a bit braver. In time, maybe
Love the aprons! I’d love to be one of those women too (prefferably with Betty Draper’s lovely wardrobe), but I’m just too much of a klutz in the kitchen!
Julia – I want Betty Draper’s wardrobe, hair and husband
Hi Kiki
I am loving orange this season.
Thank you for stopping by at my blog.

SSG – I’ve always thought of orange as a summer colour and only now connected it to autumn, when it should have been more obvious… Obviously… haha
