Ulta3 Waterlily

July19

When I first tried this Ulta3 nailpolish colour, I thought Waterlily was a strange name, because the only waterlilies I've seen were white, with perhaps a pinkish blush.

Ulta3 Waterlily is a dark, blackish purple, very much like the skin of an aubergine. A magic, shimmery aubergine.

Well, thanks to google images, I now know that waterlilies also come in purple varieties.

Gorgeous, isn't it? So this is a true waterlily nailpolish colour after all :)

It reminds me of a purple version of Ulta3's Black Plum, also a deep coloured shimmer. It has a very similar formula and finish.

I like taking nailpolish pics that include my whole hand (ok, part of) because I think it gives a better idea of how a colour looks overall, which is a bit difficult to tell from close up pics alone.

So, Ulta3 Waterlily is a very dramatic nailpolish that looks practically black indoors, but comes into its own in the sunlight.

I'd love to be able to test my nailpolishes under fluorescent light, for people working in offices, but unfortunately I don't and I think I'd get a lot of stares if I started photographing my nails at the local library…

Unfortunately, while I think this is very glam, I just don't feel comfortable in very dark colours. But for all you lovers of a dramatic nailpolish, this is a fabulous colour for winter.

So, while browsing google images for waterlily pictures, I came across this pretty print. It's not really something I'd have in my home, but I think it's beautiful and elegant anyway.

There's something very retro about this kind of art. It reminds me a bit of that Cadbury Flake ad from the 80s…

Do you remember the lady in a long white dress and hat wandering through a garden with a basket, and sitting on the grass and eating the world's messiest chocolate bar?

I reckon she got chocolate stains on that dress for sure.

I was wondering why Waterlily was named so, and thanks to you, now I know! It really does look lovely against your pale skin, but it also looks a lot more purple/aubergine on you.

On me it’s more of an eggplant shade, and when I stand in the sun, it becomes a very dark pink/red shade, which was a pain to photograph because my camera kept making it look purple. :(

Now, to find a matte tc! :D

But as I was looking for it, I also found this ad:

So funny! How did they get away with things like that back then??

Btw, I love that colour and the picture of the woman is beautiful (but agreed I wouldn’t have it in my house, unless it was a really small print).

Joaniipoo – How strange that it looked red/pink on you but purple on camera! I really need to work up to dark colours, I think. A while back I refused to wear purple at all, and now love it, so these things change :) Good luck with finding a matte tc. Have you looked on ebay?

Valankuay – I remember the guy with the hat! Here’s the Aussie version.. remember the song? “Full of, full of Cadbury dairy milk… feel it crumble and melt in your mouth” lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLXkL46-Ml0

Ok, maybe I’m really innocent, but I didn’t think that second one was all that provocative…

OMG I loved that ad as well…I was so young though when it was on and I thought she looked so elegant and mysterious eating under that tree!
