The Life and Times of Kiki Chaos

When tempest tossed, embrace chaos.

A Week in Photos

October18

We received a visit from the fur kingdom a couple of days ago – this little baby ringtail possum.

Now, I usually consider possums protected rodents, but this one was so teeny tiny! Like the size of a 6 week old kitten.

We think it fell out of a tree and lost its mum, so we gave it a snack which kept it occupied while we decided what to do with it.

I grabbed an old nightie and put it in one of those recyclable shopping bags, where it seemed quite content to munch away on its apple until our landlord took it home to find a wildlife agency who would take care of it.

Little cutie.

On one of my walks I came across an enormous daisy bush, so I didn't feel guilty stealing a few for our windowsill.

I have this thing for bud vases at the moment. I've collected these from opshops and love creating little floral vignettes on the windowsill.

A couple of days later, on another walk, I noticed that the daisy bush had been brutally trimmed, so I'm glad I saved these happy little flowers from the compost bin :)

Mecca Cosmetica opened their new concept store in Melbourne Central on Wednesday and emailed their subscribers a voucher for a sampler pack to celebrate their grand opening.

So, I made a trip into the city to check it out.

Unfortunately, Mecca management didn't organise any such sampler packs, or inform their staff about the offer.

The (lovely) girl who helped me said I could choose from a NARS Laguna bronzer sample, a NARS South Beach The Multiple or a (miniscule) tube of Perricone MDs Cold Plasma.

So I chose the Multiple, because I don't use bronzer and the Cold Plasma tube was too tiny to contain enough product to give you a proper idea of whether it works.

It came beautifully packaged in a drawstring bag though. Even Mr K picked up The Multiple and said, "Nice packaging" (though he did read the above sentence and laughed, saying "Only a chick would understand whatever the hell that means!" :) )

I've never used a Multiple before, so I'm interested to give this a go.

It's a bit shimmery, so I'm not sure how this will go on my skin, which is very prone to shine. I tend to steer away from shimmery highlighters, but I'll give this a go.

Even though the Mecca sampler was disappointing, I didn't waste my trip into the city.

I ducked into The Face Shop and picked up these lovely nailpolish shades for $4 each.

And was talked into trying their BB Cream by the sales assistant.

Well, she didn't have to try very hard. I've been reading all about this all over the place for ages, but hadn't seen it anywhere.

I can't wait to try this and see if it is as miraculous for me as it seems to be for all of Asia!

While I was in the city, I picked up a lovely roll of wrapping paper especially for my new bedside table drawer.

I've become especially concerned about having unlined drawers.

It just cannot be.

Before = Boring.

After = Lovely Leopard!

I know I could have gone with something brighter, bolder and more noticeable, like a vibrant floral, but I kind of like the subtlety of leopard print.

Plus, it's paper.

I can change it next week, and wrap someone's present in this :)

Then I ducked into Spotlight to pick up some muslin, because I'm about to start brewing a batch of homemade ginger beer, and you need to strain the 'starter' (yeast, sugar and ginger mix) with muslin.

I was stopped in my tracks at the entrance by this stunning (stunning, stunning, STUNNING!) dress on one of their mannequins.

I think those flowers are pansies, and I'm in love.

I have nowhere to wear this dress, but I'm thinking of buying the fabric and getting it made anyway.

I'm not sure about the curly red ribbons hanging off the side of the purple flower, but the rest is just inspired.

I think these would make gorgeous bridesmaid dresses too.

I'm going to go start my own little ginger beer brewery now, and within a few weeks we should be drinking my little experiment.

I'll make sure I take pictures and blog about it, in case anyone else is a ginger beer fan and wants to make it too :)

Kitty – I think I may have to get that fabric.

Valankuay – I thought you didn’t want to go to the races?! I do think we’d look like two birds of paradise together :)
